Message: I cut mine as low as I could go before the bend. Turned out that it was hollow. The welding process got much harder because of how thin it was. I put 2 1/2 inches of round stock in mine to make the shift just a bit shorter. The difficult part was how the shifter was so thin and the round stock was solid. Getting the stock to make a puddle without burning through the shifter was almost impossible. I made about six tack welds with .023 wire after letting each one cool and it has held for 5K miles. Good luck and be careful with your welds.

Message: Well, since your throws will be shorter you should spend some extra time to get the knob exactly where you want it so you don't have to reach to shift into every gear. (I have to lean foward to get 5th. So sit in the truck and imagine where you want to be shifting. Then just legnthen it and bend it to that spot. I used a rosebud to heat mine up near the base to bend it. A propane torch would work too. But be careful not to bend it too far down so it contacts the cup holder assembly and the shift boot. I bent mine to low and had to do a little grinding.
