Message: i have a 1993 dak v8 cc 4x4 auto. recently its been giving me a slight problem starting.
This morning when I went out to start the rig, It wouldnt start. It cranked over fine, but wouldn't fire up, like it wasnt getting any gas. I broke out the timing light and hooked it to #1 and it was flashing so i knew i was getting spark. After that I cranked the ignition on/off/on/off/then on and had no codes. the next time I clicked it on, i heard the fuel pump kick on and then I tried to start it again. it spitted and spuddered like i ran it out of gas, then fired up after a few more cranks.
My guess is i might either had an power issue with not getting power to the fuel pump at first, or the pump itself is on its way out. Any ideas?
This is not a consistant problem at all , and this is only the second time ever that this has happened.

Message: I have a '97 Dakota that has done the same thing! I was not having any problems until I tried to start it the other day. Cranks fine but won't start. Does not appear to be getting any power to the fuel pump so I would love to know what is meant by "the ol' under hood wire splice"
Thanks for any information that can be provided

Message: In the wiring harness under or very near the relay/fuse box under the hood a a wire splice that consists of three wires. They power the fuel pump and A/C relays.

Message: on another message board a very helpful gentleman stated that the wires under the fuse box for the fuel pump get corroded. You may want to check them out
