Message: I HAVE A 2001 4.7 2WD WITH ABOUT 90,000 MILES. AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES OF DRIVING I HEAR A DINGING, LIKE THE SOUND WHEN YOU ARE ALMOST OUT OF GAS AND THE GAS LIGHT COMES ON. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON IN THE DASH, AND NO CODES ARE DISPLAYED WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY.
I FEAR IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT MY DAKOTA WON'T STAY IN OVERDRIVE. IF I AM DRIVING AT 60MPH, THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE, BUT AS SOON AS I APPLY ANY PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL, IT DOWNSHIFTS. THEN IT KEEPS GOING IN AND OUT OF OVERDRIVE.
ANY IDEAS AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?

Message: have you tried to retreive any stored codes? that would be where i'd start. you should be able to use the key trick. turn the key on/off/on/off/on and the codes should display on the odometer as PXXXX. when it's finished it will display Pdone.

Message: IN READING OTHER POSTS, I AM INCLINED TO BELIEVE THAT THE OVERDRIVE ISSUE IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE NEED FOR A TUNE UP.
RECENTLY, MY BLINKER HAS BEEN ACTING FUNNY. IT BLINKS FAST INDICATING THAT A BULB IS OUT, BUT ALL BULBS ARE FINE. WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM IS ELECTRICAL. ANOTHER ODDITY OCCURS WITH A TRAILER BRAKE BOX IN MY TRUCK. THE LIGHTS ON IT FLASH FOR NO APPARENT REASON, AND IT MAKES MY BRAKE LIGHTS FLASH ALSO. VERY ODD.

Message: So the gas light does actually come on ?? because my 98 will do that occasionally then i guess the float catches and it goes back off, also what about the gas gauge does it read empty when the light comes on?? as far as the tranny goes there should be a linkage adjustment to change the shifting points.Mines near the TB.

I FEEL THAT THE PEOPLE THAT DON'T HAVE ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO SAY SHOULD VISIT ANOTHER WEBSITE INSTEAD OF HARRASING PEOPLE HERE.

Message: Fast turn signal blinking and all lights working is usually a sign of a bad connection in the ground side of the light circuits.
