 Subject: Third brake light wiring

I have a 04 Dakota QC and I need to wire the 3rd brake light on my topper. The only brake wires I can find under the back of the truck are tied into the turn signals also, causing the topper brake light to flash. Is there some other wire or do I need an extra device for this?

Could you not just tie it in to the already existing third brake light on the truck cab somehow?

There is a wire at the back of the truck labeled for 3rd brake light. You just need to look harder.

Can you be more specific to the location or color of the wire? I checked the wires in the harness on the left side frame rail. Is it seperate from this? Is there a label on it?

Kurt, the real daddio here, not some facsimile as the above poster. i beleive he is pulling your leg. i think the easiest thing would be to do as shadetree suggested and tap into the existing 3rd brake light.

look above the spare tire or just behind it. I believe that mine was pink with a stripe and it was labeled "brake". Mine is an 01, so with yours being an 04 it should be there.
I guess the so called "real daddio" doesn't know everything.

Thanks guys.
I'm going to drop the spare and look for that wire this weekend. As for tying into the brake light on the cab, I don't think that will be an easy task, since the wiring for it runs inside the cab.
I will let you guys know what I find.

Hey Jaret,
I never did find a wire that was not tied into the turn signals. I have been told there is a device for about $20 that will solve this problem.
