Message: I am currently doing a full fluid overhaul on my dakota and I have a couple of questions. . .
1999 Dakota 5.2L automatic 2WD 3.55 gear set no limited slip
Do I need ATF 3 or 4 and how much do I need?
What viscosity differential fluid and how much do I need?

Message: ATF+4 supercedes ATF+3 so use it.
as for how much fluid, probably somewhere in the range of 14 quarts. your owners manual will tell you how much for sure. It will also tell you the type and how much fluid for the rear. use synthetic.

Message: For the rear diff fluid, it depends on what you're using the truck for, and under what conditions. HEavy duty towing in the hot desert should be some stout oil. Gentle cruising in Minnasnowda should use a light oil.

Message: Thanks for the help with the above questions, but I have a couple more questions now. . .
When I replace my transmission fluid, will I need to remove the pan and thus have to buy a new gasket and filter?
How much power steering fluid do I need for a full swap?

Message: About a quart of AFT+4 for the steering fluid . And depending on what pan gasket you have you might be able to reuse it ... dodge started using a rubber gasket with a metal liner .... if you have that one then you can reuse it. You will just need need te filter at that point .... and I buy mine from the dealer .... its cheap ..
