Subject: fuel pump problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 dakota quad cab with a 4.7 in it I am having problems starting it. I turn the key and it cranks for about 30 seconds before it starts. But if I turn the key on and listen for the fuel pump to stop and turn the key off and back on again it starts right up. It seems to be loosing pressure when you shut it off. My question is: is there a fuel pump pressure regulator that can be changed or do I need to replace the fuel pump

Message: Had exactly the same thing.'00 4.7 The problem is well described and testable using the shop manual. Bottom line, it's all in the tank(unless testing indicates leaking injectors). Changed my fuel pump, regulator assy and starts like new.
