Hey guys,
Looking at an a/c problem right now. The compressor will kick on
and the clutch engage. But it will only stay engaged for periods of
about 3 seconds. it will cycle through this process about 5 times a
minute with the a/c on. It is full on freon so it isn't the low
pressure switch tripping. could it be an in-line pressure switch
kicking it off? Anyone else had this problem?

have you put gages on the system and verified that it is indeed fully charged? there is no "in-line pressure switch".

if memory serves me there is only the low pressure cutoff switch. for over pressure there is a relief valve built into the system. if you have indeed verified the system is fully charged by using gages you can bypass the LP cutoff switch and see if the compressor stays on. if you do this and the system is low DO NOT run it very long. as you could damage the compressor.

My 2000 4.7 liter was doing the same thing, also not blowing real cold air and the low pressure piping to the evaporator was just cool not cold.

Got a buddies electronic freon detector and located a leak on the accumulator right where the pressure switches are mounted on the top. Tigtened up and added 2 cans of gas.....good to go so far. Also for about 15-20 bucks you can get the kit that has the fill hose and basic gauge with the low/charge/high marks.
