I have a 2000 4.7 Dakots, and got a P 0455 code recently, Evap emission control system leak (large). I have cleared it a couple of times, but it reappears in a couple of days.
What is the most likely cause for this error code ?

I second the cracked hose. I had a similar issue. I crawled under the truck, the u-shaped hose from the fuel tank to the evap canister was split and cracked at the connection. I went to my local autoparts store and picked up some hose (be sure to tell them it's for fuel evap system). The sell the hose by the foot, cost less than $2 as i recall.

I've read a lot about the gas cap causing this, but I've never seen it except if someone didn't put the gas cap on after fueling. You should turn the cap until it clicks several times, if you do this, the gas cap can't cause MIL lights except if it goes bad and I've never seen a bad gas cap (read a lot about them on here going bad but personally I have never seen it).

Gas cap is not the problem.
Cleared the code about a week ago, and it has not come up again. I will check for cracked hoses if it does.

I got same error for a few months even with on 27K miles. Changed fuel cap and a lot of hoses and still didn't get the problem fixed. I also noticed a black ring around my tail pipe and a lot of soot in the pipe. I changed my spark plugs and presto. Mileage back up to 15 city and 20 highway.

i got the same code on my 00 qc 4x4 4.7.I noticed it the morning after i filled up it was my gas cap didnt put it on right.cleared code it was fine
