Subject: 5.2 Bolt-Ons Worth It?
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm towing a little more often with my 98 Dak 4x4 and I'm looking for a little better mileage and performance (low end tq/hp).

I have a budget of $1500 for bolt-ons.. I am thinking AEM CAI, Programmer (Superchips or Hypertech?), headers and exhaust.

Any advice on which brands and parts would yield the best results for towing?

Thanks,
Nathan

Long-tube headers are good for some additional low-end grunt.

long tubes are good, but I think that you may have a hard time finding them for third gen daks. Also don't know if you can really use them with a 4x4 dak, anyway. Shorties are plentiful, and they help out as well. If you get a new exhaust, make sure you don't put pipes on that are too large, and don't remove or gut your cat.

If you can find axles at a boneyard or on car-part.com that have a ratio of 3.9 or higher, that would help alot, also.

Rocker arms off of a dodge viper will also help with horsepower and torque, and the total cost is <$100. They're really, really easy to install, also.

I had a hypertech programmer.I could tell a big difference.
i would do the programmer, cat back exhaust,a true cold air intake, not one that sucks in hot engine compartment air,and headers.
I had headers also.next time i will pay someone to install them.

Sounds like yer on the right track with headers and exhaust, but if you run a larger tire size then re-gearing is a great solution for power.
