Message: Hey guys, I am considering buying a 05 Dakota tomorrow. It has 50K and is clean, but I am really hesitant on getting it becasue of fuel. I do drive 35minutes each way to work but mostly high way. It will mostly be a highway truck. Can I expect to get at least 18mpg or will it only get 14mpg. I am getting roughly 20-22 in my car now, I would really hate to get much lower than that. The truck does have a nice Tonneau cover on the bed, I think that will help. I also read that a K-N drop in filter and certain spark plugs help. Thanks for any help guys..Can you also tell me about the drop in filter.

Message: I just bought an '05 4x4 club cab. 2 weeks ago with the 4.7 and I get from 18.5-22 mpg depending how hard I push it. I bought it specifically for the gas mileage. My other truck is an '03 Ram 2500 hemi 4x4...talk about gas hog 12-14 if I'm lucky.

Message: Tony - tough to say with the info given. You could be asking about anything from a 2WD RC to a 4x4 QC; and that will make a difference. It would also help to know what car you are getting 20-22 with, that could tell us something about your driving style.

Message: I just bought a 05 quad 4.7 6speed(stickshift) 2wd, what kind of mileage do you think it will get. I have a 01 quad 4.7 auto 2wd and am getting 14 city, 21 hywy. Used to get .5 mpg better, but went from a 3.55 open to a 3.92 trac-lock rearend.

Message: Oh and by the way the new rearend was put in 6 months ago. WELL WORTH THE .5 MPG. Hell on tires.

Message: True as Kowalski said about the style.
My 2000 4.7 liter 4x4 gets about 16-17 mpg on the highway, and I do have a tonneau cover. It also depends on your driving habits (55mph gets much better mpg than 70mph)

Message: I disagree. My 2004 Dak gets best mpg @ 70 mph.
Best ever: 22 mpg at that speed, usually 20.
