Subject: Carbed 95 Dak Wiring.

I have a 95 Dak, short wheelbase Sport that is getting a rare carb and a Mopar electronic ignition. The tranny is an RH46 that I just kitted.
Those of you who have carbed your Dak's, do you have any advice on wiring?
Electronic ignition wiring with the ballast resistor, 12v and 9v run circuit.
Tranny O/D and Lock-up circuit.

I designed and made a throttle and tranny cable mount so I'm not hacking this job. The truck is mint and well taken care of. I'm in the mileage with power game.

Any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks

B~

The most direct, out-of-the-box way to go is the Mopar Performance ignition kit. It includes instructions (too much to type here) on just what wires to splice. This allows a bypass of the OEM setup, but maintains normal function of the other systems in the truck.

I got the NOS kit and wiring but no instructions on where/what to splice into.
The start and run circuits are what stumps me. Oh yea, and the tach circuit that it will need for certain functions. I guess that would be the "other" wire from the coil that doesn't have the 12v.

Get this book. Best $10 you'll ever spend. Start on page 308. It explains in detail how to do the bypass for Mopar vehicles, not just the truck. The problem with doing the swap on an early Dakota is that once you pull the stock distributor, you lose the signaal to the computer, so then you have no power to the fuel pump and coil. Back before I had the book, I temporarily bypassed this problem by running a hot wire from the battery to the coil. This gave me power to the fuel pump and coil, and I ran a plain old '69 vintage single point distributor. Again, this was temporary to help figure out why it wouldn't work. As long as the wire was hooked up, the pump would run, but the computer was bypassed and none of the other functions worked. I asked around, but nobody could answer at the time, but I figured I could run everything as before, with just an intake and carb swap. All I'd need was a relocated TPS, and the computer would never know the difference. It'd throw a code over the feedback issue, but that'd just mean the check engine light would glow. I did see a remote TPS relocator, but it was rediculously expensive for such a simple gadget. Anyway, I later learned the Mopar way with the ignition kit and it works just fine. Get the book and save yourself a lotta pain.

i THINK i HAVE THAT BOOK in my collection. I must go find it.
I know about the no-power-to-the-pump/coil/computer thing. I have the electronic kit too so I think I just have to do the tach/coil wire thing but the computer won't be driving the ignition, the elect. box will be. I want total control.
I may also look into the TPS relocation thing too.
Thanks

Oh, ok, I think I have that particular one but nothing on page 308, nor in the other racing Mopar book. I did find how to wire it but not what I have to tap into on the truck, and I can figure out how to hook it up as I've done many times before.
