Subject: 5.9 R/T Fuel Injectors... IP: Logged
Message: I've recently upgraded my intake, throttle body, transmission, etc... and I want to upgrade my fuel injectors.
Problem is, I can't find any info on what size injectors come stock on a 5.9 R/T. The shop manual doesn't say, the Chiltons and Haynes don't say. Google doesn't turn up sizes except for the 6cyl 5.9 diesel.
Does anyone here know what size (lbm/hr) injectors come stock with the 5.9 R/T Dakota?

Message: depending on the year, '00 & up have 21# injectors. from the mods you listed you don't need anything bigger than that. go to www.fiveomotorsports.com and look at the Bosch 4 hole design. a set that is flow matched. give them a call they'll take care of you.

My mods include:
-Hughes Racing FI AirGap intake
-Hughes Racing Stage 1 52mm throttle body

Thanks for the website. I'm headed there now to see these injectors.

Message: even with that list there is nothing there to indicate the need to go larger on your injectors unless you have some kind of forced induction.

Message: Hmmm... I had always heard that the stock injectors were the same as used on the 4.7 and the 5.2, and were a little on the small side for a 5.9 R/T.
And, with more air, you need more fuel. I know that the intake and throttle body don't flow tons more air, but with the injectors already on the small side, and with this new intake and tb flowing nearly 300cfm of air over stock, I figured a small upgrade in injectors would help out a bit.
I'm looking at either 21# or 24#. Since the computer adjusts the time they spray, I'm sure either one would be ok.
It looks like the 98 and 99 R/T's had 19# injectors. So, really, I'm just trying to catch up with factory upgrades for the later year models...
Anyway, thanks for the info. Yep, the fiveo site is a bit confusing, but they are a lot of help on the phone.

Message: the PCM can only adjust the injector pulse width so much. if you have to go up i think i'd only go up to 21#. not sure but i would think they should be able to support about 400hp.

Message: if you are thinking about doing a cam swap you might want to go with bigger injectors anyway.
