While driving my 98 Dakota R/T with the 46RE trans at speeds under 45 mph if I ease off the gas and get back on it the trans seems to take a second to catch back up to the drive train. I thought it may be worn u-joints but they are okay.It seems that it is the torque convertor locking back up. Anyone experience this same problem. Someone told me that it could be to throttle position sensor. It seems to "free wheel" for a second and then locks back in.

Hi there,

I have the same problem with my 99 R/T. Posted on here awhile back and members suggested u-joints and engine mounts perhaps. Nonetheless, still have same problem and it is definitely something I would like to correct. I did put larger tires on my r/t so the setup could be off in the computer I suppose. Let me know if you figure out the problem because it is a PITA!

your spider gears in the rear end could be getting sloppy.

I had that problem once too in a '94 Caravan.
Turned out to be the wrong fluid in the tranny.
I had done my own tranny oil and filter change and used aftermarket Dex3 oil. Turned out that model tranny would only run right with Mopar brand fluid.
I had it flushed and refilled with Mopar filter and oil. No more problems.

Hey Kevin,
I've been doing some research and it could be a few things. My u-joints are solid, spider gears are okay. It could be the TPS as it only does this under 45mph, and it feels like the torque convertor is not locking up as quick as it should.
I say this based on the information I found and the fact that it only does this under 45mph and if I ease of the gas and get back on it. It could also be time for fluid change, band adjustment etc (maintenance) but this was done not long ago. Check out www.diesalgiant.com/dodge_diesal_maintenance_tips
I know it is a diesal but they are similar trans with similar electronic controls. Other than that I have never had a problem with this truck. It is 10 years old 131,000 miles on it. Still looks and runs like new. Mopar or no car.(Or truck) Still have an 89 Ramcharger with one of the first roller cam motors, it has 367,000 on it and beside the requisite maintenance and one timing chain set it still runs like new.F*ckin'A.

Thanks for all the replies. Have to look into the TPS sensor and the spider gears I guess. Truck only has 130,000km on it and the tranny was flushed, filled and bands tightened 5k ago. Keep me posted if anyone finds a solution. Thanks again

Kevin,
Hey let me know if you find any spider gears in that heavy duty 9.25 limited slip rear differential in your R/T. All R/T's have limited slip rear's, more commonly called posi's by the chebbie and turd guys. Please be careful of the info you check out. Seems there are quite a few neophytes that visit this forum. Also check all your wires and connections leading to all the sensors on the tranny.

10-4 jayb but if it is maintained like it should be it will last a long time, such as draining and replacing the gear oil when or sooner than recommended putting a bottle of whale oil in or mopar limited slip additive. I am a fanatic about maintaining my mopars. My 89 Ramcharger has a 3.55 9.25 limited slip in it with over 350,000 miles and hav never had a problem with it and I regularly tow a 1964 Dodge 440 drag car round trip every week-end over 170 miles. Mopar or no Car. Never owned or drove anything else. Hope everyone on this page can be the same. Support Grandma Mopar everytime you purchase a vehicle.

too bad you didn't wait a few years on that ram charger, then it would have a magnum motor vs LA
