ok when i give it full throttle peddle to the metal my oil pressure just drops down to 0 and for it to come back up i have to let off the gas, thats how it fisrt started and now it dose it just normally accelerating. dose any ones elses trucks do this, is it supose to do that? if not dose any body no what the problem would be?

Message: No, it's not supposed to do that. That's a bad thing.
First, confirm that the gauge is reading correctly. Get a halfway decent aftermarket gauge and see if it matches pretty close.

Message: Mine does the exact same thing. I belive it comes from gunk getting built up in the oil pan. I ran a flush through it and haven't had any problems for about 2500 miles. It came back on today though. Good luck with the problem.

Message: Sounds like oil level too low.
Check to make sure you have the correct dipstick.
My 98 Sport came with the wrong one. I knew that when it was taking 6 1/2 qts to fill.

Message: probably a faulty gage. if the motor isnt knocking then you have pressure.
the 1 think these 318's are notorious for though, is oil pumps going bad. If that was the case like i said, it would knock. If it does start to knock shut it down immediately to save the motor.

Message: Take out the oil pressure sensor and install a mechanical guage in its spot and run the engine, to reproduce the problem. If this gauge reads pressure than you need a new sensor.

Message: as Adam suggested, when in doubt install a mechanical gage to know exactly what's going on and go from there.

"If his oil level was too low it would do the opposite."
I was referring to Eddie. If you are braking and your oil pressure drops, its because you are low and all your oil has slid towards the front of the oil pan and uncovered the sump. Now if it was dropping when at idle, then yes that would be because of something wrong like a pump, etc, but he said when he stopped not when he was idling, therefor low oil.

Message: I had a similar issue with my 04 Dakota. The oil pressure gauge would fall to zero at idle. When I accelerated it would come back up. After reviewing some other threads I found the oil pressure sensor failing was common. Plus it is a sensor, and will probably wear out at some point anyways.
The sensor was only $16 so I figured that would be a good place to start. I replaced it, and noticed a ton of oil in the electrical connector to the sensor. I soaked up the oil inside the connector with a few paper towels.
Haven't had an issue since.
