Trying to figure out why my 1992 Dakota has a lean miss. It has the 5.2L V8 with 210k on it. A code comes up, but it doesn't do much to diagnose the problem. I forgot what it was. Checked all the injectors they all read 14.6-14.7 Ohms.. Was told that it needed a #6 injector from the previous owner, but not sure who told him that. Can this ECM be put onto a scope to better find out what the problem is? It leans out at about 45 MPH and you can feel a vibration, when its running okay there is no vibration so its not a driveline issue.. and it has a rough idle. A mechanic friend of mine says that it could also be a bad ECM, but how to test for that? He checked the fuel pressure and it was good as well. Running Lucas in the fuel fixes the problem most times, but without it, the milage goes down and the check engine light comes on. Otherwise I LOVE the truck and want to fix whats wrong w/ her..

Can you find out what the code was again? Ever changed any sensors like maybe the O2 sensor or anything? Fuel filter? How is it when you take off quick at full throttle? What about part throttle acceleration?

I had a similar problem with a 94 5.2L, ran fine with 1/2 tank or more fuel, pulled fuel pump, was a Carter replacement, has adjustable depth that was not set so the bottom screen, sender and pump was able to move up and down 2 inches depending on the fuel depth in the tank. Tightened the adjustable set screws and it corrected the fuel gauge problems and the missing when the tank got below 1/2.

Bart...You are the Man! I have been going out of my mind trying to correct the problem you describe. The original fuel pump failed at about 90K miles, and I installed a replacement. Took me a few months to discover that I had a lean misfire (and dead motor in a few miles) when I hit 1/2 tank. Add fuel to the tank and would run great until I hit 1/2 tank again. Fuel gauge never dropped much below full. I did not realize that the adjustment screw needed to be locked down! DUH... Makes perfect sense after reading your post. I am going to tilt the bed and lock the sucker down this weekend. Thanks!
