Headers and M1. M1 by far is the best start, although it's all a package, M1, headers and 1.7 roller rockers. seat of the pants difference.

Screw the 4.7 get a 5.7 hell get a 6.1 same block and then bore it 30 over and stroke it out and you will have a 426 small block hemi.

But that cost a hell of a lot more the 1000 more like 15000

1. 1.7 rocker arms. Use Viper parts, it's cheap and easy.

2. Computer tune. More power, and better shifting.

3. shorter tires. Like swapping gears, but cheaper.

4. better rear suspension. No sense having power if you can't use it.

5. bed cover. Improves aerodynamics.

6. A full tune up with quality stock replacement ignition parts. Performance parts are more expensive, less reliable, and won't gain you anything.

7. Replace all fluids with quality synthetics.

You could add an M1 and a bigger throttle body. But without a true cold air induction and a better exhaust it won't work all that well. And that would put you well above your cap.

The 4.7 is a great motor and deserves respect for its power output and extremely fun rev limit, but give me the 5.9/360 any day of the week. Its been around forever, theres tons of parts readily available and its easier to work on (my opinion, I hate overhead cam motors, stick with pushrods).

Plus its a torque monster! I have a LA 360 in my 87 Ram 4spd and that thing shreds the tires through 3rd gear, thats with a small 2bbl Holley carb on it! (only 25,000 original miles, bought it off the original owner with 19,000 miles, he put the two barrel on shortly after he bought it in 1987, don't ask me why)

1.7:1 Viper rockers 100-125
Superchips - 350-400
good tune up - 100
M1 manifold - 600
FMS fuel injectors- 350 for a set(Bosch 4 hole design and flow matched) www.fivemotorsports.com


maybe a little over your budget but those should wake it up.
