Message: I use dino oil, Castrol GTX changed every 3,000 miles. I see no need for synthetic at this time, at least for me.
Main thing is to change the filter every time. That way you get rid of the dirt.

It's hard to tell on this site anymore!
But here goes.
Most vehicles you can go 5,000 miles on good STANDARD oil no problem. 3,000 is a scam. Especially on newer engines.
I was going more like 15,000 on Amsoil, but since I've never turned in any old oil for testing, I was convinced that 12,000 was probably safe so that's what I shoot for on oil changes. Amsoil claims as high as 25k miles in between changes!
Got two Dodge vehicles that have ran on Amsoil since they hardly had any miles on them.
I never tested to see if it gives any more MPG. I just don't like to change my oil as often.

Not trying to start anything, but the thought did cross my mind due to the controversial nature of the subject.
Hopefully everyone interested in posting will just give their thoughts, and respect other peoples opinions as well.

Message: I use mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w30 and a K&N gold oil filter. I change every 5,000 miles. I switched from regular havoline and a fram filter to synthetic and k&n filter at about 30k miles. One thing i've noticed is my oil pressure doesnt drop as much as it used to especially at idle. right now the truck has about 55k and have had no problems.

4.7 engine, Mobil 1 or Redline synthetic 5W30, Napa Gold #1515 long filter.
I'm up to 90 000 miles and no problems, no sludge, just a clean & quiet engine.

Message: Every 2500-3000, on 2000 QC, started with cheap mobil, then valvoline, now valvoline high miles.
Standard Fram filters (I like that easy grip coating when oil is running down my arm.)
158,xxx and no oil burning, gonna change it today.
Clean K&N air filter once a year.

Message: used to be 5k-6k running valvoline 10w30 w/ wix filter. i've run valvoline in every vehicle i've owned. used tun nothing but their 30w Super HPO(can't find it anymore) and they were always clean and didn't use oil.
now i'm trying SuperTech w/ wix filter. been in about 4k. noticed a little difference in mpg but no difference in engine running. oil still looks almost new. not sure how long i'll go on it.

Message: Every 3,000 like clockwork. Probably overkill, but I figure it's pretty cheap insurance over the price of a rebuild. I have an 1988 Buick Century that I bought new that has 203,000 miles on a V-6 and doesn't burn a drop of oil - and still gets 27 MPG on the highway. (by the way, never had the valve covers off) I'm doing the same thing in my R/T. I only put about 6-10K/year on it so I figure it gets an oil change every 4-6 months.

Message: i was using amsoil and changed my oil 1 time every year on the day be4 my birthday so it was easy to remember. why the day be4 my BD? so I had fresh oil when i drove it like a bat outa hell on my BD. i switched to mobil1 last time just to save money but i dont like it and i am switching back. i learned that mobil1 is now just like castrol and is not a synthetic anymore. M1 is now just extra refined crude so they call it synthetic like castrol does. my truck does not run as good on mobil1. amsoil was quieter and smoother. i am switching back to amsoil next change. mobil1 i would switch every 5k miles. amsoil i changed 1 time a year about 11k miles. amsoil says you can go more miles between changes but only 1 yr max.

when i changed the oil in the merc, it came out as easy as it went in.
so far in my 93 dak v8 i just change it whenever. probably got somewhere around 4,000 on it now.

Message: I drive a lot in high heat and city stop and go traffic. I change my oil and the filter too between 2,750 and 3,000 miles. I use a semi-synthetic blend made for higher mileage engines and a good quality filter. I also consider it cheap insurance.
Someone once told me "when you want to keep something, you take care of it". I want to keep my Dakota on the road and running good for a long time. I drive a lot and take a lot of trips out of state to visit my family. I take very good care of my truck and I hope it will take good care of me out on some isolated stretch of the interstate in the middle of nowhere.

What a waste. Royal Purple and 2,500 mile oil changes.
Why do you use Royal Purple in your dakota? RP is a Group V oil. Since you change your oil every 2,500 miles, you must know that RP performs very well in the shorter term ONLY.
Oils like Royal Purple perform very well in race engines and in applications where drain intervals are factory spec or SHORTER.
Oils that are strictly Group V ester oils (Royal Purple) tend to be better suited for high RPM, hot running, air cooled engines, and don't have the longevity of PAO (Group IV) or PAO/Ester mixes oils.
