Message: I know this question has probably been answered a thousand times on this forum, but i coudlnt seem to find where it was, but i want to put a 5.9 in my 2001 dodge dakota. Its a V6 automatic and i wanted to know how close it would match up to everything. Would the tranny still work? How much work would i have to do to make it fit? The V6 in my truck is a dog and iv been wanting to put a 5.9 in for awhile but now finally have the money. Any help is appreicated thanks!

Message: Can it be done? Sure. The 5.9 was a factory option that year. So you can do it all with factory parts.
Your best bet is to find a donor vehicle, and swap everything: motor, trans, computer, cooling, suspension.
Only about 5% of Dakotas came with a 5.9. But there are plenty of Rams made that way. Go to the bone yards and pick one out. Then pull all the parts.
