OK I posted this this morning and it has disappeared so here I try again. I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota with a 4.7L and 5 speed auto tranny. I keep getting a P0441 code. This code is EVAP purge system malfunction/incorrect flow. I have replaced the purge selenoid, No Joy, I have the purge system harness (I purchased for another problem and found I didnt need it but could not return it) this harness is just a large and small hose with no electric connections. Do any of you out there know what else can cause this problem? I am a competent mechanic I just do not have the flow charts to diagnose the exact problem with my truck. If some one can post a copy of the Dodge service manual flow chart that would be a great help as well. Thank you in advance.

Evap/fuel vapor system is not maintaining seal.
1. Check for loose or improperly sealing gas cap.
2. Get under and inspect canister just forward of the fuel tank inside the frame rail. Take a real good look at hoses and connections to this canister unit. Look for cracks, splits, etc on exposed rubber or plastic hoses.
3. Go to the engine compartment and find the rubber hose that connects to the throttle body. The other end of it is connected to the purge solenoid. Check hose connections there, too. Look for cracks, splits, etc.

Thanks Manny I will check that out. I reciently had a very small leak problem P0456 (reason I bought the harness) I replaced the gas cap, no joy and then while replacing the harness I found a split hose, repaired the hose and leak problem gone but the P0441 problem is here now. I think that I will try replacing the harness, I did find one hose that looked a little soft.

When you think you've fixed the problem, instead of driving around for days trying to complete enough drive cycles to clear the code, clear the code yourself if you own a good scantool and then go for a short drive to see if it comes back.
If you don't have a scantool, reset the computer using the following steps:
Disconnect battery
Press brake pedal
Hold ignition key to start position for about 10 seconds
Remove key and reconnect battery.
What this does is suck all the juice out of the engine computer (engine/transmission computer starting with 2004 model year), which makes it forget everything, codes and all.
The battery disconnect method also erases adaptives, so the transmission computer will also forget your driving style, and will have to learn all over again. So use this method only if you don't have access to a scantool that can erase fault codes. Your engine will also have to idle for a couple minutes while the computer relearns some baseline engine operating parameters peculiar to your engine: spark advance, fuel timing and duration, etc.
Side note: My 2004 has factory alarm system, and I found out just how loud the horn is, because reconnecting the battery arms the system. If yours has the alarm system, press the unlock button on the key fob before you open any doors or try to start it.

I'm having the same code, just popped up last week. What was the final outcome for you? Was it a leak?
