Hello, I am considering buying a 2001 Dak quad cab. It has the 4.7, automatic and is 2wd. Supposedly it has a bad head gasket (I haven't had the opportunity to view the truck yet). It has 175,000 highway miles and for the most part has been well maintained. My questions are, is the 4.7liter known for blowing head gaskets/cracking blocks? How much of a pain is this motor to work on? I have worked on a lot of 3.9l V6's on the newer Dakota's and they aren't that bad. Any hints, ideas, suggestions, etc are greatly appreciated! If you could post your response here and email me at Danpd66@aol.com I would be greatly appreciative!

Thank you in advance,

Dan

the 4.7 will be a little more complicated,
to begin with it has overhead cams and 2 long timing chains.

The 3.9 is an older style engine, pretty sure it has a single cam in block and pushrods.
