I have an 03 Dakota quad cab with about 75K miles on it. Over the past yeat or so when first driving (the first couple of minutes) the truck heasitates and stumbles. The power and gas milage have been dropping also. So far I have replaced the upstream O2 sensor, the MAP sensor and the coolent temperature sensor. I have put an Autoenginuity scan tool with the Chrysler enhancment module on the truck and it finds no codes or errors. I have checked the fuel pressure several times and it is 45 to 50 PSI. Last week it died before I got out of the driveway and would not restart. I pulled out two spark plugs and found that they were dripping wet with fuel. The next day (after putting in the new coolent temperature sensor and resetting the computer) it started and ran fine. Now 300 miles later I am having the same issues. I really don't like shooting in the dark. My experiance with the dealer has not been good, just expensive. Help please!

Your not the only one!

I've had 3- 4.7's and when they started idling funny I would run a few tanks of cheap injector cleaner and that would straighten out the bad idle. I've had good luck with Techron, but it's expensive.

You might want to pull the IAC solenoid and clean it up along with the port inside the throttle body, it can get plugged up. Idle Air Control solenoid, on the drivers side of the throttle body in front of the TPS. Just clean it up with carb cleaner, don't push-pull on it.

Good Luck,

Did you check the fuel pressure before that first cold start of the day ? Injectors could be sticking open, bleeding down pressure, and dumping fuel into those cylinders - causing the rough running.

I checked the fuel pressure cold. Before the key was turned on it was zero and came right up when the fuel pump started.

The only time that I seem to have a problem is when the truck is running open loop, as soon as it goes closed loop it smooths out.

Last night I checked for codes with my scan tool and it didn't find any but when checking with the key on/off method P0522 code displayed on the odometer? I can't find any P0522 code in my manual. I was able to reset the computer and make the code go away but it would be nice to know what it was!

I dumped a load of fuel injector cleaner in the tank today, hoping for the best.

Your '03 shouldn't have read zero then. Pressure is retained with a check valve at the pump end and the injectors at the other end - or it should be...
The wet plugs are the clue that those injectors are leaking, and likely the cause of the rough running. If the cleaner doesn't work, you'll likely need to replace those injectors.

P0522 - oil pressure voltage too low.
oil pressure sending unit voltage input is below the minimum acceptable voltage.

could be just a dirty/loose connection to the sending unit.

otherwise, follow Kowalski's advice.
