I am having a burning smell coming from my rear brakes and it feels like they are hanging up...I am not really great with my knowledge of cars so I am here asking for suggestions!

The parking brake is the usual answer. Sometime the cable inside the sheath rusts, and won't release properly. Crawl under there and see if the cables are tight when the handle is released.
If they are, sometimes you can release them with some PB blaster. But you often have to replace them.

To get out of a pinch on the shoulder of the hiway, I have laid under the truck and cut the cables with a pair of pliers. I don't bother using mine, anymore.
