I've got a '95 Dakota that im about to put a 360 magnum into. I plan on using a carburetor for simplicity and cost. I am also most likely getting rid of all my ECM stuff because it is a 4 cyl truck right now. I want to use the magnum accesories because of the higher output alt and because of the serpentine setup. Can I just use an external voltage regulator to do this? Or is there another way to hook the alt up so that it works without the computer?

Thanks for any help,
Andy

Yes, you can just use an external voltage regulator. That's what I did on mine. There will be other items you'll have to consider such as ignition, and fuel supply. It is possible but a swap to a 5.2 or 5.9 magnum picking up the computer and wiring from a salvage yard might be a better choice.

ANDY......Think you need to reconide what is the better way to go here. there is more to consider then just the engine here . such as instrumentation just to mention one. to change motors and the computer is one thing. to convert the engine and the entire body system is as deep as it gets.

I have the ignition and fuel part sorted out. This is not going to be a daily driver. I have a 2000 Dakota for that. I will drive it on the street but it is basically being built a bracket racer.

I'm not concerned with the gauge cluster because Im getting rid of it too. I am going to build a custom cluster from aluminum and put all new autometer gauges in it.
