Subject: Stalling Problem? IP: Logged
Message: Took in my 2000 4.7l auto to have the oil and transmission fluid changed and now the truck wants to stall sometimes when I come to a stop. Never did this before, not sure what changing the fluids could have on this. Took it back to the shop and they said they cleaned the idle air sensor, but its still stalling. Sometimes the rpm's drop and then pop back up without stalling. Any ideas?

Message: There is no idle air sensor. There is a throttle position sensor; and an idle air control. I assume you mean the IAC. Your post is a little vague about when they cleaned it. If it was before you went back, maybe they damaged it ?

Message: Take it over to autozone (or whereever) and have the battery tested. I know it doesn't make sense, but a bad battery will cause these symptoms.

Message: very likely they damaged it. especially if they didn't pay attention to what they were doing. they could have just lost the oring.
did you check for codes? turn the key on/off/on/off/on and the codes will display in the odometer as PXXXX(e.g. P0171, etc). if no codes it will display Pdone.
could also be a weak battery. strong enough to start the truck but could cause a rough idle on a cold start up.

Message: If the trans fluid didn't get topped off the torque converter can get stuck in lockup mode and stall an idleing engine.
After changing the fluid you need to shift back and forth from drive to reverse a few times and recheck. That gives the system time to pressurise and get fluid to all the parts.

Message: Don't bother with this suggestion from "dddddd" either. Another ridiculous post, from someone who clearly doesn't understand the 4.7's coil on plug design. Also, coil failures are usually associated with heat (break in coil wiring opens as it gets hot), not rpm.
Jim - find your solution yet ?

Message: I had this same problem after changing the trans fluid. Turned out to be I didn't have enough fluid in the trans, just like olsarge suggested. Once I got the right amount in, everything was fine again.
