Subject: New Y Pipe and Free Flow Cat On '03 4.7? IP: Logged
Message: I currently have a single 3" dual 2.5" Flowmaster Origional 40 going to dual 4" tips on my '03 Dakota. I love the tone. It makes me drool everytime I start it up. It is pretty loud. I've gotten a few complaints! The only problem is I'm getting to used to it and want it a little louder. I've been thinking about getting a aftermarket Magnaflow Y Pipe and a Magnaflow Car Sound free flow cat. Will this make it a little louder, but keep the same tone? I also lost a little low end torque with the exhaust, but not much. Will I gain that slight amount back?
If you have any other opinions to get it a little louder with the same great tone, please feel free to share them. I'm all ears.

Message: Yeah. Run the pipes into the passenger compartment and point them at your head. That should be loud for you without being inconsiderate and bothering other people.

Message: DeereFarmer - It was increasing the flow of your exhaust while decreasing the scaveging velocity that cost you the low end torque. 2.25" pipes would have been a better choice, and could help replace that torque. At this point, you're going in the wrong direction to try to get the scavaging velocity back up - so no, what you are thinking is not the way to get that torque back.

Message: Thanks Kowalski. The loss of torque is very, very minor. I can hardly notice other than going up a long hill inbetween gears. I honestly can't remember how it felt stock, so there might not be any torque loss. I put the muffler on three days after I bought the truck. I think I'll just leave it alone for now. When I replace the muffler at some point, I'll drop the pipes down to 2.25". Thanks for the input.
