Subject: electric fans IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking to replace the mechanical fan on my 98 5.2 with an electric setup. I live in arizona and tried a flex a lite 180 and found it was not even close to being adequate. I have heard that a late model camaro/firebird dual fan assembly fits and works well. Anyone here tried one ? Thanks for any advice.

Message: Proper shrouding of any fan is the key to getting any electric fan to work well.
The 180 fan should be about adequate in AZ with a good shroud. But I wouldn't expect it to keep up with extreme demands there, like long idling or heavy slow towing. I use a smaller fan than that to keep my 427 Dart motor cool. Seems to work pretty well here in a cooler climate.
Never heard of using a F-body fan. But I have heard of people using a Viper fan and shroud with excellent results.

Message: Lincoln MK 8 electric fan seems to be popular. It's 2-speed.

Message: Are you talking about a GM F-body .boB ?
A little confusing, as this is a mopar site and an F-body in mopar land is a Volare or Aspen.

Message: Yes, a GM f-body, which is a camaro/firebird that he mentioned.
