Ok so my 98 Dodge Dakota is giving me issues. The ABS and the Brake light are on all the time. When I accelerate the speedometer does not start working until I hit 20mph and it just jumps from 0 to 20. The engine light come on every once one and a while. Today I was driving and it was about to shift and the RPMs went way over red line and I think the truck when into neutral because it just started to slow down. I let off the gas it shifted down and i continued driving no problem.

I was wondering how to get the error codes with out going to the dealer what tool do i need to read them from the built in computer and then once i get them how do i tell what they mean.

sounds like the RWAL sensor. located in the center section of the rear diff. as far as pulling codes, i'm not sure if it works on a '98 or not, works on my '00. turn the key on/off/on/off/on and the codes will display in the odometer. example - P0148. it will display Pdone when it's finished.

Well the key thing didnt work unless i am doing it wrong. I might just go to Auto Zone and get them for free. If it is the RWAL sensor is that hard to replace I have never done it before.

i haven't done it yet but from what has been posted on here about it, it doesn't sound too bad. while you're at A/Z pick up a Haynes repair manual for 20 bucks.
