Message: don't you want to find out what code is stored before you reset it? i would.
disconnect the battery and turn the key to start and hold for about 30 seconds. turn key off and reconnect the battery.

Message: not sure if it works on a '97 but try turning the key on/off/on/off/on (by on that means "on" and not "start") and codes codes should display in the odometer. example - P1438. when finished it will display Pdone. If this doesn't work run down to your local Autozone or other parts tore and they should be able to read them for you. most do this at no charge. get it read BEFORE you reset the PCM.
