Subject: Shift Light IP: Logged
Message: I've asked once before and never really got a good answer, but I'm going to try and ask again. I'm trying to install a shift light in a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7. I've purchased the 9117 Tach Adapter as required for this truck. I need to know exactly where to find the "12V Ignition Power Supply". The adapter has two wires, one for the wire coming from the ignition switch, and the other for the wire going to the coil pack. Any help would be great (wiring diagrams, wire location and color, pictures, etc.)

Message: You must have a manual tranny, I hope.
Why would you need a shift 'light'? Isn't the feel of the torque change, and/or the tach reading enough?

Message: When racing, I like to keep my eyes on the road so having the light come on will allow me to focus on the road better. Yes, the truck is a manual. As far a feeling the torque change, that's true but there is an optimal point at which to shift so that you are in the best power range. If you change too early (like as soon as the torque begins to drop off), then you will start the next gear at lower RPMs and it will take a little longer to get back into the power range.
By the way, I just read on the proform website that the 2001-up dakota should "tap into main power feed for all 8 coils." Where is this?

Message: I've got an 03 4.7 5sp and when the light hits the dash at the right angle, I can see there is a shift light there, but it has never come on. I'm glad because I find tose silly lights annoying. Through trial and error, I know where my optimal shift points are (that's right points. the gears in the crappy NV3500 are far from equally spaced and you've got to get out of first early or the damn thing won't shift into second). I've never complained to the dealer that the light doesn't work because I do find them annoying, but am curious. has anyone else noticed there is the word 'SHIFT' in the dash and have they ever seen it light up?

Message: for some unknown reason i think the shift light was only activated for the v6/5 spd combo's. the little arrow lights up on my '00 QC. it's never bothered me. if you hold the go pedal to the floor it doesn't come on!

Message: The little arrow that is supposed to come on on the dash for the 2001 is supposed to offer the optimum shift point for fuel economy, not drag racing times. I am wanting the shift light to function so that I can vary when I want to shift my truck. This is my preference to have the shift light in the truck and I feel the benefits outweight the cons. So if anyone can tell me where this wire is that is the 12 volt ignition supply wire, that would be great.

What a football game, eh?
Anyway,
The dash shift light on the 2001+ was deactivated b/c of driveability problems.
Mine still comes on at start up when the lights all light up for their start up test. then it never comes on, b/c DC deactivated it.
