I have a 99' Dak 5.9L and its giving me some troubles. When I start the truck up it fires and then dies if I dont hold down the accelerator. And its giving me troubles starting after its been running. (eg. If I stop at the gas station on my way to work it has troubles turning over but eventually does) No error codes or lights.....thanks!

Check battery condition and charging system - idle memory is one of the first things affected by low voltage.

Scott's right.

EXACT same thing happened to my buddies 99 5.2. IAC solenoid went bad. Replaced and was fine.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Jay

"Miltonwaddums" - You may have jumped the gun in declaring "Scotts right". While his sugestion may be worthy of exploring as part of the problem, I'll bet you can't explain how a bad IAC (Idle Air Control) could make it have trouble turning over...

Does a 1995 have this IAC? I have a 95 that dies sometimes at idle but will start right back up and run fine. It only does it if you hit the gas to go and then get off of the gas to stop like backing out of the drive way then shifting into drive.

My 99 dakota 5.2 did that after I accidentally drained my battery. I left it overnight (it was 2am and 17* outside) and when I came back to it the next afternoon, it started right up.

not to start a fight here..... but ryan stats when he starts his truck it dies unless he hold his foot on the gas pedal.... sounds like it turns over fine but wont stay running.... yes a bad battery thats weak can make it act that way... my durango did that.... but another area to check is the IAC or a dirty throttle plate.... now the battery situtation... after it has run for while it will learn its desired idle and idle fine untill its shut off and started again and then the weak battery issues will happen again with slow cranking and stalling unless throttle is held open for it to stop stalling.... now if cranks fine but stalls and the throttle being held open to keep it running then the IAC or a dirty throttle plate is at fault
