Message: 02 QC 4x4 4.7L auto. Truck is all stock except high performance air filter (not FIPK) and halo spark plugs.
I'm thinking of getting jet stage 1 chip for my truck. I don't want a stage 2 because I want to run on reg fuel, not mid or premium.
Who has this on a stock truck or stock plus performance air filter?
Is there any other chips/programmers I should be looking at that won't require mid or premium gas?
Keep in mind my goal is gas milage. My dakota has enough hp and torque for everything I do. I'm not interested in it for pure performance reasons.
what kind of gas milage did you get before the chip? after?

Message: If you're gonna spend some cash on a PCM mod don't waste your money with a Jet Chip. From everything I have read concerning the 4.7L engines they are useless. Instead, spend that money on a Superchips tuner. Even though it's a bit more $$$ you'll get lasting results, and the flexibility of three tunes along with tire size adjustments.
I have noticed a small MPG improvement on my Durango with the 87 octane tune. When running with either 91 octane tune the mileage drops some. Gives more power, but it comes at a cost.
I run the 91 octane towing program on my 2002 QC and unless I am towing I get 18+ MPG.
What's your left foot doing? ============== 2002 Graphite QC SLT Plus, 4.7L, NV3500, Superchips 3715, 3.92 LSD, R/T rear swaybar, no chrome, loads o'fun... 2001 Patriot Blue Durango SLT, 4.7L, 45RFE, Superchips 3715, 3.55 Open (for now) 1999 Forest Green Dakota RC Sport, 2.5L, NV1500, 3.55 Open

Message: Dan,
I have the same year Quad-Cab. I have purchased the superchips programmer and have had good results. My mileage has improved by almost 2 mpg, possibly more but I live in an area of a lot of stop and go traffic so I really have not tried to see what I can get. I do though have a little more on my truck, I have a gibson cat-back which did absolutley nothing for gas mileage and a k&n drop in that has done even less. I will tell you, just as Modain has said, it is a little more money but the best money I spent so far for doing what a monkey can do to install the program. I have noticed other than gas mileage gains, improved shift points, the 500 rpm idle is also gone, up where it should be if you read some of the other pots here. I did at first install the 91 octane performance program only to switch to the 87 program because I cannot afford 3.50 gallon for the gas and have not noticed a difference between the two programs. Best, easy thing I've ever done for this truck.

Message: I'll second what Modain said, never heard anything good about a JET on the 4.7.
I have a Superchips on my 01 Durango and really happy with it. I'm running the tow 91 setting since it's the wife's grocery getter and my tow vehicle.
I'll have to try the 87 performance setting and see if I get better mileage than the 91 tow setting. I'd be really happy if it got 1 MPG better mileage while running cheaper fuel.

Message: Looks like i'm gonna order a superchips!
Thanks for the info.
I do a lot of off road driving (dirt, gravel, mud, creeks, etc) doing fishing/camping trips as well as volunteer work for GA DNR, US FS, and NPS. I do a lot of state road (55 mph) and highway driving (65/70 mph) getting there. I'm hoping to offset the 30-75 minute driving of speeds of < 20mph with some decent cruise mpg.
When i do a lot of off road driving like this, I get 14 - 14.5 mpg.

Message: there is a pcm flash and cam package available to give you an extra 50-65 hp and 70 lbsft of torque for about $12-1400
