Subject: truck shutting off IP: Logged
Message: my truck would shut off for no reason but would start up like nothing happened...sometime it would run rough and i would get a smell from the exaust...and the tack would bounce up and down at times while traveling...thanks

Message: 2000 V8 magnum it will shut off at any time usually after it warms up alittle seems like it just builds up and sometimes smells...no codes will show up on this...????thanks

Message: Which '00 v8 magnum ? There was a 5.9 and a 4.7. If it's the 5.9, I'd suspect the coil; but I'd think that might throw a misfire code. Do you know how to pull the codes ? Can you clarify what you mean by "builds up" and let us know what the smell is ?

Message: builds up like the exhaust isnt' getting out..and sometimes smells like eggs. like it may be the c. converter... its the 4.7 engine.. thanks alot

Message: Your welcome. You can use a vacuum gauge to check the cat - probably about 17-22 at idle; should be 3-5" higher at 2500-3000 rpm. If it doesn't go up like that, probably a restricted cat. If under 80,000 miles I think would still be covered by federal emissions warranty.

Message: my truck did the same thing it was the egr but if it smells its probally is the cat like kowalski said my chev quit running cause the cat was bad

Message: i think it was a loose battery terminal wire...truck seams to be running good after tighting it up....
