 Subject: Ticking Sound???

I have a 2000 4.7L dakota. At idle sometimes I hear a loud ticking type sound. Sometimes its louder that other times. Any thoughts as to what this could be?

time bomb or maybe your turn signal is on ??,
4.7 engine ticking is actually a pretty common subject
on this forum, most will mention checking:
-hydraulic valve lifters/lash ajusters
-exhaust manifold/gasket leaks
-emission controls

if your hearing it while defroster is on
then most likely the AC clutches
