Subject: is 5 speed stong enough IP: Logged
Message: i have a 93 dakota with a v6 and the 5 speed. I just bought a 5.2 for it and i was just wondering if anyone knew if the 5 speed could handle the power of the v8 as i really like it and do not want to convert to automatic.

Message: you should have an AX-15 5-speed from what I have heard it will hold up to the 5.2L for some time if you take it somewhat easy on it. Another alternative is to pick up a NV3500 which was the 5-speed put behind some of those 5.2L. All in all you should be good with the v6 tranny just dont expect to power shift it and hold to together.

Message: If you plan on doing a lot of 1st to 2nd hard grabs neither the AX15 or the NV3500 will hold up.
Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer. well at least a stock one
