Message: Anyone ever replaced the front main seal on the 4.7? I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I'm pretty sure I have a slow leak from the front seal. I'm not going to bother fixing it unless it gets much worse than it is currently. I'm not sure how long it's been leaking, but I've never experienced any noticeable oil loss in over 7 years and 105K miles. I'm just curious how difficult it is to replace.
Thanks.

Message: I have the same problem on my 2001 Dakota Quad 4x4. I have the service manual and the job does not look too bad but there are several special tools required. There are two tools to remove and install the damper pulley and two to remove and install the seal. I'm wondering where to get these tools or if other tools can be substituted. The pulley puller looks like a standard 3 jaw puller and the pulley installer could probably be fashioned from a bolt/nut/washer combination. The seal tools don't look like they could be easily improvised.
Anyone have luck doing this without the 'official' special tools? Do dealers lend stuff like this out?
Any help is appreciated.
