Subject: Ball joint question? IP: Logged
Message: I had my ball joints replaced by the Dodge dealership in 2005. It did not cost me anything, and was part of that recall by Dodge.
Today I was looking at the new joints, and there does not appear to be any grease fittings. Does anyone know if these new joints require lubrication?
Thanks!

Message: Factory ball joints are sealed, and do not need periodic greasing like aftermarket ones. Most cars and trucks built in the last few years are the same way.
Some of us old guys think that's a bad thing. Some of the new guys think it's a good thing. You decide.

Message: Interesting bob,
there is a rubber seal around the joint, does not feel like there is any grease inside. maybe just there to protect the joint from dirt, etc

Message: yes, the rubber seal is there to keep out dirt and moisture. Also, to keep in the grease. You wouldn't be able to feel the grease unless it's too hard to work anymore.
