both codes popped up at the same time......
is the downstream 02 sensors what sent these codes?
Thanks for any thoughts!

Message: Your cats are probably worn out, the downstream sensors are reading too close to the upstream sensors - which indicates a worn out cat.
You can try resetting the light and see if it comes back.

my downstream sensors have never been replaced...
should i try this...and is this a job you do without a lift?
How much are cats?
why would they both go bad at the same time?
sounds ironic?
HELP!!!uhggggggg

Message: Doesn't sound too ironic, they both have the same amount of miles on them, don't they?
What he means by "reading too close" is , they are reading too close to the same amount of mV. You could try O2 sensors if you like, that is a possible cause, HOWEVER if it were the sensors there would more then likely have been another pair of codes that said something like O2 sensor performance, or O2 sensor slow response. I would lean heavily towards the converters being the prob with only those two codes.
How many miles have you got on your truck, if its less then 80,000 and your truck is less then 8yrs old, you can get the converter/s replaced for free under the federal emissions warranty.

Message: The way they work is, the upstream O2 sensor move constantly trying to get to the perfect mixture. The down stream normally only moves much during warm up, IF it starts to read the same as the upstream and almost as quickly as the upstream then the cat is shot.
Probably since you got a new PCM it thought it had a new cat and thus thinks it is bad. OR the cat is bad.
Easy to check and see with the DRBIII.

Message: Clogged injectors are a result of the fuel you use, or individual contamination of your fuel. Maybe they weren't clogged, but someone convinced you and took your money. Wheel bearing failure, also isn't related to it being a Dodge. Did you ever service them? PCM failure is a random thing. I've seen many, not just Dodge last well over 200K miles (where do you think those electronics are made, anyway?). The cats are only required by the federal gov't to last 100K. If your injectors really were clogged, the cats may have been contaminated by the same crud (If it'll clog injectors, it'll coat the cat). Not taking up for Dodge. Anything you listed, MOPARornoCAR, can be an issue on any make. Unless you're looking at freeway miles only, 133K is pretty good for the problems you've had. The intake gasket is however, the worst thing they ever did.

That is ALL that has gone bad in 133k? And you are whining about it?
Leaking intake gasket can take out the cat too.
Gen1dak said it best.
Of course there are ways around that code if you don't want to replace the cat.

Message: Guys,
guess i should elaborate more....it was just 2 injectors...6 and 8....i dont know what really caused it.....i feel i do good upkeep on my vehicles....i guess i am really whining alot since these problems have all arised in the last year....and yes the intake gasket is still using @ 1 qt of oil every 3k change...AND its been replaced already.
**do you think i should buy a pair of downstream sensors , since they are originals????**
Is my dakota gonna fail emissions if i dont fix the cats?
thanks for everyones help....and sorry for being so negative.

Yes it will fail most state I/M tests, IF the code is in the computer :)
I don't think changing the O2 will help, as it is the cat that isn't working.
You could try taking the O2's out of the cat, plug the hole and tie the O2's to the frame rail - this has been known to work.
Or you could replace the cat, but fix the oil issue first - in fact IF you actually fix it first, the cat might clean up enough to work on it's own.

Message: Well if you go factory it will be a few hundred $$ for the cat, since it includes both precats and the main cat - all in stainless.
They make an alum. plate to take care of the steel vs. alum issue - though the new Mopar gasket seems to fix most problems IF installed right.
You don't want to get new cats though if burning oil or antifreeze - it will just coat them.
Clear the code and see if it comes back.
PS. If you try removing the O2's and just hanging them somewhere (plugging the cat holes), and if that works - there is no driveability penalty. It doesn't affect the performance at all, all it does is check the cat efficiency.

so i can get all new pipes and the three cats for a few hundred bucks plus labor?....hmmmmm
sounds almost to good....
well on the intake subject.....i have already had it replaced once....whats the sure fire way to tell if its bad????someone told suction on one of the hoses is the way to tell?
i already cleared the code once and it came back....i just got my emissions done this year so i am good for some time now....my concern is...am i hurting the engine by driving around with this code?
my gas mileage seems to be good...@ 280 miles per tank..in city driving.
thanks again...you have really helped out alot!

Message: Doesn't hurt or affect a thing - other than tailpipe emissions slightly.
The factory system comes as one unit, not sure on exact price, might be 400-500 - I really am not sure.
Hard to tell exactly on the intake, esp. if it isn't a decent size leak. Could try the suction method and see. Remove the PCV, try to get a slightly high idle and Plug the PCV hose and feel the air in hose to see if you have pressure or vac.
A compression test can tell if bad rings, or it is likely your valve seals aren't the greatest at that mileage.
In the end, those codes won't hurt anything - cept your eyes looking at the light :)
