 Subject: 1999 5.2 318. Idle problem

There are times I can start the truck and it runs fine. There are other times when I start the truck it will idle for a while then it seems to die, then all of a sudden it picks the RPM way up to about 12-1400 and then idles back down. Also when I am driving it (usually at lower speeds) it seemd to die and the only way I can get any power back it to pump the pedal to the floor and then it picks back up. Not sure what the problem is. The truck has 306000 miles. Pretty much everything is origional on the motor. Can anyone help?

I am having same problems with same engine. I replaced the coil and started having this problem. It turns out the wire that plugs into the bottom of the coil is breaking apart. Check your wires it's an electrical problem. (in other words your engine is not getting fire consistently) Good Luck

i had the exact same problem with my dodge so i had to get the computer changed and now it runs better than ever

My old roomate had a 99 318. He had a similar problem with it just dying when his foot wasn't pressing the accelerator. We tracked it down to the idle air control solenoid in the TB. Luckily, I had swapped a 318 throttle body onto my 3.9, so I had a spare IAC sitting in my closet. We bolted it on and away it went. I know your symptoms are a bit different, but an IAC acting up could cause your symptoms too. Check all of you TB sensors while your at it. (TPS, MAP, IAT, IAC, etc.)
Just something to consider - hope it helps.

I have a 99 dakota 5.2 it starts fine when it gets to running temp it looses oil presure . you can turn it off wait about 10 sec. start it up again and oil pressure is back it will run at pressure for a while and then loose it agian? any Ideas!

I have a 1999 5.2 318 that runs strong but then
anywhere after 30 minutes it will just shut down.
Tried 3 different PCM's and much more and still
dies. Any help would be great
