Message: Usually; it should be as close to yours as possible - same year, emissions package, transmission, motor. There is one combination that guys have reported doesn't work well, with the factory alarm - but I forget if it is a problem with that configuration in the donor PCM, or your truck. You don't say what motor. I am able to run my '00 4.7 on a boneyard PCM with a different vin with no problems or codes. Whether all the 4.7s are like that, I don't know.

Message: jake, i believe the PCM falls under the federal emissions warranty and may be covered 8yr/80k miles. worth a look.
besides, these PCM's rarely go bad. what was it doing to make the dealer think it's bad?

Message: I'm saying that I was able to run my '00 4.7 on a PCM with a different vin with no problems - I thought I was pretty clear on that ? Follow daddio's suggestion - see if your cam sensor is putting out a signal. Could be a problem with that wire, or sensor installation.

Message: not sure which pins are which but backprobing the connector with it still hooked up and cranking it should switch from 5vdc to 0vdc according to what i've read. maybe a chiltons or haynes manual would be able to tell you which pin is which. 20 buck investment for either of those manuals is worth it.

Message: yeah i know all about the manuals i cant remember which one i bought from oreillys, but it doesnt show anything in detail on the 4.7 so i call back to see if i can swap manuals and they are non-returnable. also will a fluke meter be able to read the voltage drop that fast besause only about 1/4" seperates the holes on that gear or whatever you wanna call it.

Message: it should be listed in your owners manual. i don't have mine handy but manufacturers are required to warranty emissions longer than the regular bumper to bumper or powertrain warranty. most are 8yr/ 80k.

Message: I have taken my 99' Dakota Sport to the dealership cause of a electrical issue. I told them my issues and requested an electrical diagnostic test.. No prob. That ran me 99.00, Then they told me after the test that it was definatly the PCM, and that would be 500 for the part and 400 to put it in.. Then they informed me that the clusters might go bad after that and that would run me about the same 900.00. One question? Can i get a pcm from a bone yard and what about the clusters if that goes bad?

Message: Wow - $400 for a five minute job ? I guess yours will take slightly longer than that. You'll most likely need to get the vin # flashed into it; since '99 was before the 4.7 was available. Other than that, the rest of what I posted above applies - try car-part.com. And start looking for a dealer with more reasonable rates !
