Subject: P0351 engine code and truck is dead! IP: Logged
Message: Guys,
my wife and kid were stranded yesterday... in my 2001 dakota 5.9 (128000 miles)
truck died/shut off @ 60 mphs and no engine light came on....but i did have a code of p0351....coil code?
replaced coil on side of road, nothing changed....
it just cranks but doesnt fire....now battery is dead due to cranking to much......
all other electronics work on truck.....
on a side note...this dakota has been my worst dependable vehicle yet!
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Message: You are right about the definition of the code.
PO351: peak primary circuit current not achieved with maximum dwell time.
Check the wire harness that goes to the coil. It sounds to me like there's a broken or shorted wire there somewhere.

i have a feeling its gonna be 5 dollar part fix and i am gonna have to have dealer fix it....gosh i hate vehicles!!!HAAAHAAA

Message: I think that you're going to have to read continuity from the coil plug (the one on the bottom) back to the PCM through the harness.
A wire with an internal break will appear to be fine, but upon further inspection, (an ohm meter) you'll be able to find it.
