Subject: (for the mechanics)rev limiter @ 4400r's IP: Logged
Message: ---yo whutup, new to forum. Sorry for the long thread, but it has to be.
---ite check this out, here is the 30 dollar question. i have a 01 r/t x-cab. my 46re has always had the common problem of hitting the rev limiter and not shifting into 2nd, i just dealt w/it until i blew 1st out completely.
---so i ordered a rebuilt tranny from roadmaster transmissions, there a quality company, but they messed up and sent me the newer version 46re that has the 3-pin nuetral safety switch instead of the 5 pin digital range finder that my dak came with. they're making it right but i had to put the tranny in for now. i tricked the dig. range finder into thinking its in nuetral all the time, and it throws a p1899 code(nuet. switch, as expected)
---but all it should effect is reverse lights, cruise, and will start in any gear, right? why is it rev limiting @ 4400 r's, i didnt notice if it was like that before, or if it was higher and just the pressure sensor maybe. i realize i should wait till i get the tranny then see what happens, but i cant stop thinking about it. if the 4400 rpm limit still exists after the correct tranny gets here, my first move will be a reflash, will dodge dealer do this, how much. if not then what? p.s. whats the stock redline? thanx, really sorry for the novel.

Message: Sounds to me like the computer senses that the transmission is in nuetral, and doesn't let the engine over-rev. Get the right sensor, and your problem will most likely go away.

Message: clint, don't you have a mopar perf comp? if so that's why yours will do it.

Message: yah i should see what happens w/ the right sensors in place. but if it still does it, how much should i expect to pay for a reflash, and can i do it at the local dealer? or is there a better performing alternitave that costs around the same?

Message: all a dealer would probably do is a stock reflash with the lastest version of software for your truck. they sure don't want to be liable for something else going wrong.

Message: the only difference in the mopar pcm and stock is it raises the rev limiter and takes out the speed limiter... that is it.
also in my dads ram it will rev to the REAL revlimiter at 5200 in neutral or park.

Message: I had mine on youtuve reving to 7k too!
But I swapped my intake manifold back to stock.
I almost forgot, but when mine was stock it would only rev to 3k or so as well when in park/neutral. So evidentaly since you have the wrong gear indicator and you tricked it to think it was in Neutral so you can start it, it also always thinks it's in neutral and uses the reduced rev limiter.
Just swapping out the indicator sensor (switch) will fix it.
Another thing that will fix it right now, SUPERCHIPS. At least on the 4.7 it removed the lower rev limiter when in park/Neutral. Mine will rev to 7k.
