I have a 2001 4.7 Auto. When I really get on it, it has a lot of top end noise. Is this normal?

What grade gas do you run? If you run 87 you might try going up to 90 or 91 and see if that fixes it. Whatever you do, dont take it to the dealership because they will probably give you the death flash, which if you read on here is the worst thing you can do to your truck. Basically if I understand right they retard the timing on you truck which make you lose power. As someone mention on another post it was a quick fix to get complaining customers of chrysler's back.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I ran a few tanks of 89 and now the problem seems to have gone away. I've heard about, and will try, the Seafoam engine cleaner. From what I can tell, carbon builds up in the combustion chamber, which can cause detonation or something like that. Seafoam is supposed to clean all that out and return your engine to almost new condition, as far as cleanliness goes.

ok thanks, I'll try the higher octane and the Seafoam. My truck has about 115,000 miles on it and I have been running 87 octane fuel.
