when in neutral on my 5 speed engine runs fine, but when in gear it runs horrible and doesnt have any acceleration. also when revving the motor the rpm take to long to drop after letting of the gas?? it is a 1998 dakota 5.2 5 speed. any ideas??

It sounds like the idle kicker has gone bad on rear of your throttle body. Before you replace it, try spraying some cleaner on the pin where it enters the TB throat. Could just be carbon buildup. I had a '92 5.2 once, and replaced the kicker sometime after 100K. It seems like it was about $45 then.
