Subject: 3.9 to 5.2 swap wiring IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1998 dakota with a 3.9 5 speed 2wd. I just recently swapped a 5.2 out of a 1997 ram 4x4 auto into my truck. now i am trying to get it wired and really need any help i can get. I heard you can add two injector wires to the v6 harness and i did that, but know i need a computer. Anyone who has done this swap if they could help me out i would greatly appreciate it because im really stumped on the project.

Message: Well, I assume that you used the stock transmission out of the V6. Correct? It is not too hard to find a computer out of a 318 5-speed truck. car-part.com is the place to go. Do you have the rest of the wiring plugged in? I believe that you will have to change out stock flywheel if you went to standard, then the crankshaft position sensor, and probably a different starter. What all are you needing help on.
Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer. well at least a stock one

Message: Same starter. Same sensor. V8 converter or flywheel.

Message: yeah i used the stock tranny and the motor is completely in place all bolted correctly. I added to wires to the v6 harness, but now i am having trouble finding a computer for it. i tried the computer out of the ram but it is not right at all. my instrument panel does not work with the ram computer but does with the v6 one. so i was thinking that i need a different computer. one out of a dakota 5.2 5 speed. also i heard you have to get the computer flash programmed at the dealer is this true. any info on your swap would really help me because i have a broken truck at the moment, thanks.

Message: The reason that the one out of the ram does not work is because it is for an automatic. You can get computers for $100. I do not think that you have to get it flashed.

Message: yeah i found one in conneticut 100 miles from me im going right now to get it thanks alot everyone who has posted you were a tremendous help. but i have a few more questions, does the emissions on the new motor and my truck have to match? although i think they are both standard emissions because i live in the norhteast and i know the owner of the ram with the donor motor. Also anyone know what do next after hooking up the new ecu, like flash programming, etc
??
