Subject: 03 4.7L Exhaust IP: Logged
Message: I have recently bought my first Dakota. I do have to say that I absolutley love it. I like the stock exhaust tone, but it is just not loud enough. I have been looking around and talking to a lot of people. I have narrowed my options to either Magnaflow or Dynomax cat-back dual exhaust. What are your guys' optionions on it?

Message: On my 2001 QC, 4.7, etc.,
I had the third cat cut off, and a aluminized pipe section put there.
It is louder, but not too loud,

Message: Thanks for the input. I have not even thought about doing that. It might be a temporary cheap solution for me.
I have a friend that has a 97 Ram, with true duals, with V-Force mufflers. His is really loud and beefy sounding. I really like it. He said that Magnaflow is even louder and better sounding.
I think that in the long run I want mine to be very loud and powerful sounding too. (I know it won't be the same...) I just don't know whether to save the couple hundred more for the Magnaflow, or to just get the Dynomax.

Message: If it's like my '03, then it wont have a "3rd" cat like some do. Mine only had the one single cat after the two exhaust pipes joined into one.
So you can't just hack that one off, LOL!
I had just a flowmatser in place of my stock muffler and it sounded pretty damn good.
Now with dual cats and dual Flowmaster's it's a beast.
I had run some glasspacks on it when I first went true duals and it was insane loud. If you want that, go glasspacks. They are dirt cheap and flow as good as any expensive muffler.

Message: I own an 02 Dak QC 4.7. Where I live we don't have emission standards. would there be any problems (Computer errors or engine damage) with just cutting my cat out???

Message: Yeah it would set an error and turn on your check engine light. But still run ok.
I've never noticed any more power by removing the cat. (unless it's plugged). It gets louder, that's about it.

Message: I finally did get my exhaust done. I took it to a local shop, where he did a custom dual exhaust with a magnaflow muffler and tips. I do have to say it sounds great. It is almost as loud as my friends '97 Ram with true-duals...

Message: I agree with Graphite
From what I've seen a hi-flow cat isn't USUALLY any more restrictive than having no cat. No cat will make it louder though. :)
