Subject: Tranny slip IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Dakota 4.7, a couple of months after I bought it "new" I noticed it shifted (down shifted) hard, but only sometimes. I could not duplicate it for the dealership (of course). Now after 75,000 miles it seems to be getting worse. Has anybody experienced this??
And has anybody ever tried "Lucas transmission fix" additive??
Thanks

Message: I have a 97 dak with a 5.2 liter, and automatic tranny, and sometimes when i really get on the gas after 2nd gear my tranny just seams to go into neutral and peg the rev limiter until I let off and mash it again. this really sucks on bracket racing at our local drag strip!! Anybody know how to fix this.

Message: Barry, my 02 does a similar thing, but I've been able to isolate to a situation where the tranny is about to up/down shift between 1-2, or 2-1.
With mine it happens when slowing down to about the point where it will shift down to 1, then when it's fed some gas it decides to stay in 2. Almost like it starts going from 2-1, then the gas pedal application changes the TCM's mind, and it goes back to 2.
It will also do this going from 1-2, as in accelerate some, then right when it starts a 1-2 shift, let off the gas.
I can replicate it on mine pretty much at will, and have not taken it in, nor do I intend to.

Message: Fluid change (syn), Adj bands, And a bottle of Shift-Rite Trans Gaurd Treatment(to help w/ stiky valves) www.run-ritestore.com You may be lucky and just get away w/ a bottle of trans gaurd, But you are probably past due for a fluid change, which is the time to get the bands adjusted. And you might add a drain plug kit so you can drain it yourself just like a oil change.

Message: Some people forget that the (5-45RFE) fully electronic Dodge transmission on the 4.7 and 5.7 is totally different than the ones on a 5.2/5.9, etc.
Like there are NO BANDS whatsoever in it to adjust.
And you can't put ANYTHING in there but ATF +4 fluid. No additives or it will probably die for sure!
Also on the 5-45RFE transmissions they don't have a TV (throttle cable) going into the transmission like the older ones do either. It uses the computer to read throttle position from the Throttle Position Sensor. And if that is worn by any means it will shifted all fukked up for sure! One time I didn't plug my TPS sensor wire on all the way and it came loose as I was driving. Holy sh*t did the transmission freak out!!! (Plus the engine freaked out as well!)
If the slider contacts are worn, it will give irratic voltage out back to the PCM. That's not good.

Message: Yep, ATF 4 only, no additives, ever. Usually you can get away with aftermarket parts, but I recommend Mopar fluid and filters in this situation.
Had a friend went to a shop that uses Lucas. They put it in the tranny and it blew all the seals out on the hiway! Overpressurized.
