I know this is a Dakota site and I apologize for intruding, but I have a '01 Ram 1500 with the 5.9l. A few days ago I got the code P 0455 Evap. Emiss. Anyway, on cooler days (55-65 degrees)when I first start it, I can smell a strong odor of gas in the cab. The idle also jumps irraticly from 600-1200 rpms and other times it idles fine. Has anyone had a similar problem? Could it be a bad hose or any sort of vaccum leak? Please help.

yea it could be.. just go under the truck and go to the evap system
under the car.. check the hose going from the canister to the leak
detection system.. or the other hoses under neath there..i had the
same exact code the other day at work when a car came in for this
and we replaced the hose for that than it cam back in for it again
and we had to order the actual evap thats under the dash...
