Message: I've already checked with several dealers on the Mopar plugs. They run too "hot" and cause ignition problems (misfires and eventually a check engine light). Stick with the Autolites.

Message: Corrections.
Autolite is NOT a defunct ford product. If it were defunct, it would not be on the market today. Autolite was owned by Ford from 1961 to 1973. Presently they are owned by Honeywell.
Autolites will perform better in your Dakota with lower cost.
Trust Autolite for all your sparkplug needs.
Good night.

Message: They are repackaged Bosch plugs, FR8DCX also listed as part# 7557. I ran them on my Ram when it was normally aspirated. I had great luck with them. The truck really ran well. I did not have any MIL lights. And for .99 each at NAPA I was pleased. YMMV, of course.

Message: Nobody in town here can provide a Bosch Platinum plug for the 2001 4.7L Dakota. They don't have a listing on the Bosch website, either. Wierd...

Message: Platinum is only for lasting until the next millenium. Copper is a better conductor.
I have tried
A/C Rapidfires - not bad, but still slight ping WOT or towing up big hill light throttle
Autolites - big waste of time and money
- did get rid of ping also mileage and power went with the ping 3923's
Champ stock - good all around but slight ping
Champ 4412 - this is the plug, best power, best running and ping is gone. This is a projected tip (actually slightly more than stock) truck plug for the 4.0 Jeep
The truck is a 01 QC 5.9 - ARE hard tonneau (good for about 0.1 mpg), electric fan only (good for almost no highway mpg but helps in town), drop in K&N and 6 degrees additional timing, MSD 8.5 custom fit wires, stock cap and rotor, old MSD Blaster2 coil, stock Robert Shaw 195 Thermostat (180 did the same as the 3923's power loss and driveability loss). This setup has stayed the same just plug changes.
Just towed two jetskiis through the WV mountains on Interstate 79 (probably one of the toughest tests for pinging) it is all up and down and winding bends this combined with low elevations causes more pinging problems for me than the Rockies. The truck is about 5200 w/me and some luggage and the skiis are about 1400 w/trailer, however they do hang up in the dirty air off the back of the truck and cause some significant drag. Got 15 mpg at 68mph at 2750rpm w/o overdrive on, these hills are big and steep.

Message: I have Bosch Platinums currently in my 92 5.2, the direct replacment (dont know the number) And I have never had any pinging, rough idle or any problems and I tow 2 snowmobiles in the winter and a very heavy boat in the summer...And about MOPAR being a champion product? It says their performance plugs are made by BOSCH??? Also why are you saying autolites suck so much if everyone runs them and give a proven 4-5 hp increase on a dyno from what I hear? That's my $.02

Message: JJJ, I am currently running the Champion Truck plugs, PN 3344. After running the Autolite 3923's, I put the 3344's in and my mileage is back and the ping is gone, along with my rough idle.

Message: I was going to run the 3344's but I wanted the projected tip to keep the flame kernel deeper in the combustion chamber.
Autolites stop pinging mainly because they effectively retard the timing by moving the flame kernel, in addition to the colder range.
Dyno's are like flow benches, I drive on the street not a dyno. The best #'s aren't always the best performers.
Your doing good then since my dad's 92 pings with 87 in it. But the 92's did run good :)
Mind you, I run 6 degrees advance w/87 octane and the 195 tstat.
In the end use what works for your particular setup, I just wanted to report my findings.
