Well I have some bad news to report, after my last thread talking about an exhaust upgrade, which I'm still uncertain about, my 99 dak sport 5.2L extrcab 4x4 has develpoed a metalic ping in the engine. I first noitced it about a month ago, when exceleating from 50-70 mph and when going up hills, then on my way back from a trip to VT, I had the cruise set at 75 and came to a hill, the truck seemed to get confused which gear it should be in and then the pinging went nuts and the check engine light came on, the after a bit it went back to its regular pinging. I have a service appointment on monday..but its driving me crazy, any suggestion? Thanks

sounds like it's in the timming. let the service place figure it out that's why your paying them.

yeah, I'm not going to mess with it. I am just curious what it could be, may be the timming, but its not that kind of sound i don't think its more of a metalic sound, then an engine skip almost like a timming would make, but we'll see what they say, thanks for the input, I'll tell the service people that if they tell me that can't find anything, hopefully the computer will pick up the problem from when the check engine light came on.

Sounds like a wire may have melted on the exhaust and confused the computer and re-adjusted your timing.
