Yup - a wrong opinion, so I cleared it up. Too big a coward to call me out using your usual screen name, or just unsure of yourself ?
Maybe you need to get over yourself...

I have a Dodoge Dakota 1999 3.9L and I get the same nobus. It happens at any time. Two auto shops later and it's still not working. If I wait 5 to 10 minutes after the engine dies, the car starts again and it may stall or keep running.
If I wait the 5 or 10 minutes, the engine will start anddriving again. I have experenced while driving (speed does not matter) an electrical failure, I press on the gas and no response but it looks like the engine is running. I pull over and wait the 5 to 10 minutes, the engine starts up fine.

I just hate to take it to a dealer. Any ideas?

When you say you get the same "nobus" - are you using a code reader on your '99 to pull that code ? Or are you just saying you have similar symptoms ?

I have a 99 Dakota sport 4x4 doing same thing,it will run 20 minutes or so,longer if I leave the hood up,and then die just like somebody had turned the key off,all the gauges stop working, the check engine, ABS and brake lights light up and I get no bus,and it wont set a code either. When I hook up the OBD2 when I know it will start I get no code, but after it stalls the OBD2 says its not connecting with the computer,I give it 10 minutes or so and it starts and runs perfect,Ive done everything I know to do,it does have an iffy looking alt.plug that Im about to fix but if that dont work,Im screwed cause Im poor. Any help would make my day. Thanks

Sounds like your PCM might not be working once it warms up. You could confirm that by shooting the PCM with a can of component cooler (available at places like readio shack) and see if it returns to normal after that.

I did try an icepack placed on the PCM,but it made no differance in the time it ran,but Im gonna get a can and spray the hell out of the PCM right after it stalls and see if it will make a differance in the time I have to give it to restart, also sometimes while waiting for it to cool,I can wiggle the plug on the PCM closest to the cab Ill get a buzz and a click and then it can be restarted.I bought a new PCM from a well known auto store, the guy said all Id have to do is install and Id be set, turns out it has to be programed with my VIN# and milage, which who knows what thatll cost With tow bill and what the shop charges.

This same thing happened to our 2000 Dakota two years ago in the middle of a Vegas summer. After dealing with it for two weeks, I paid the $85 to have the dealership diagnose it as being a bad or faulty PCM. I searched on-line and was able to get a remanufactured OEM PCM for less than $200, programmed and everything. Dealership wanted over $800.

I'm sure the "no bus" can mean a sensor or other component may have failed, or be failing. But it definitely was the PCM in our case.

I forgot to mention symptoms.

Our Dakota would die a couple times a day and give "no bus" on the ODO display. Temperatures outside were typically over 105 degrees. The Dakota would never die during night time or early morning trips when temps were in the 70s.

I know this is an old thread and it was helpful. I got the no bus message on my dashboard while driving on freeway and truck just died. Had it towed back home and a buddy of mine whom is a master mechanic for Mercedes helped me. 12 hours later truck fixed. He did all the 2 wire tests and all checked out fine. We then started checking all the wiring. On drivers side behind the wheel well there was a cluster of wires that had come loose and was touching the exhaust and fried. We replaced the wires and still nothing. Then checked the fuses. Blew two fuses (engine controls). Replaced and computer was now back up. Then gave two error codes as truck would not start. Codes were for the fan relay and engine relay. Replaced those and codes went away but truck still would not start. Checked fuel pressure was good. Then checked timing, distributor cap and rotor was fried. So did a tune up: new cap and rotor, plugs and wires. Truck started right up. So moral of the story: CHECK ALL WIRING before just changing the PCM as many on here state to do.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention after computer was up and all engine codes were gone, we checked for spark and had none. We checked coil and it was fried. Then we checked timing.
